Faces
Tell me what you don’t know,
Tell me how you look like.
Bet your skin color gives you
The same privilege as mine.
Tell me how you like to speak
Does your accent make women weak?
Or does it make society think
That you’re too much trouble for the streets?
Tell me what you listen to
Does it have a decent beat?
Or the electromagnetic feeling
When those teenagers take extasy?
Tell me what you want to say
Lay everything on my plate
Cause I’m trying to understand
Just trying to make amends
not defend the white men.
We’re human
we like to love
but it’s hard
to make it up
when the world
causes fear
and our skin
determines
our careers.
Because we’re human
And we have different faces
but we are all beautiful
despite all the hatred.
Let me be honest
Cause I’m so inspired
Mr. West, Logic, Drake
They got me speaking “Through the Wire”
The got me calling, and “Ballin’”
Wanting to make “Headlines”
But I’m just a mixed race
White chick
Trying to pass my exams in time.
And I am not saying I’m superior,
Because I think I’m far from that.
I just have a lot of words
To verse
To rehearse
To get it out of my head fast.
Cause it’s so crowded up there
and it doesn’t seem to help,
the external pressures of this world
and the fact that we might all just go to hell:
For racism, sexism, poverty, pollution
For rape, drug abuse, homicides, and corruption
So I’ll say what I want to say
And I’ll write what I want to write
I’ll try to treat the world better
and try to treat my mind right.
